I am passionate about helping clients realise their dreams. After years of inspiring students in a successful teaching career I wanted to concentrate on my love of art and design and so chose a career in Interior Design.
Building good relationships with clients is really important. I ensure that my clients feel listened to and that they trust me to interpret their desires, fulfill their aspirations whilst being sensitive to their budget. I am very interested in using sustainable and allergy-free products.
My design sense has been formed over years of studying, fine art, sculpture, and experiencing the beauty of symmetry and balance in classical buildings. I love the opulence of gorgeous fabrics and wallpapers and am equally happy designing interiors which are contemporary/ modernist in feel. I especially love design that is clean, balanced, uncluttered, made livable and comfortable with accessories, including paintings, sculptures, plants and interesting and well chosen lighting. I use a combination of textures and a mix of natural materials such as wood and stone juxtaposed with modern materials such as steel and glass. The psychology of colour is fascinating and can be used to unify, sometimes surprise, and always to create a supportive ambience.
I was fortunate to have lived and worked in the U.S.A., whilst in DC, assisting in a Dali retrospective at the world famous Hirshhorn Museum which houses the Smithsonian’s Modern Art collection. Moving to California I continued my education in art and design graduating from the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Living and working in Los Angeles was a fantastic experience allowing me access to such a range of styles- Beach, Grand Spanish, Modernist, Ethnic, Contemporary and of course ‘California’ style.
There, experience included residential projects and showcase homes. Now in the UK, I incorporate the philosophies of Entertaining and Relaxing into the British home: open kitchens, utility areas, extending living spaces outside and interesting use of lighting.
Helena helped us to harvest the best of our ideas and desires and lead us on in new directions, which we would not of thought of unaided, to arrive at a very stylish and co-ordinated interior design for our new home. The result is definitely us but it would not have been arrived at without Helena's design skills and her tireless research for suitable fabrics and accessories. You only have to see the results to know that Helena has produced something very special for us. We would certainly use her services again.
